Adventure Buddies (and kiddos) Summer Holiday 2022

DAY 5

Long lie ish.. 6.30am Charlie decided it was time to get up, followed by Grace and Struan at 7.30. We got changed, the tent down (dry 😃) and had breakfast in the van (which started no bother 👍 and headed off on our adventures to the East Coast.

As we weren’t far away, I took us all down the single-track road to the most amazing beach ever.. Achmelvich, and of course collect some sand!

The road to the beach was lovely and quiet and we soon arrived at the carpark. A pound in the meter and shoes on, we wandered down the boardwalk which soon revealed the beach. Achmelvich Beach is surreal! White sand, clear blue sea and a gentle breeze.. if Carlsberg made beaches this is one!!

Anyway.. enough of the best beach ever.. we played here a while before heading south round the coast for 10 minutes or so to Lochinver. Here we watched a deer have its breakfast while Chelsea nipped into Spar for some much needed energy drinks!

Back on the road.. it was mostly single-track with passing places and spectacular scenery for the majority of the journey East.

We arrived in Dornoch, where I nipped into the bakery to surprise my biking buddy Michelle, before driving along the promenade for a wee look. Dornoch was beautiful so we’ve added it to our to do list for next year’s camping holiday.

We then headed south and round the coast to Rosemarkie where we parked at the Fairy Glen trail head. We geared up and heading into the woods and up the side of the stream to find fairies. A nice gradual uphill (that Charlie actually walked by himself) got us over little wooden boardwalks, passed by a duck pond, jumping over rocks before arriving at the waterfall. We spotted the fairy house in the woods, posed for silly photos and headed back down the same route to the van, of course stopping for the odd pee on the way back!

After our 5km walk up Fairy Glen we headed to Chanonry Point to try and spot some dolphins… we headed down to the car park but it was full, so drove very slowly but didn’t see any.. so we continued on our journey south. After refuelling the van, Struan quickly checked out the petrol station loos! Onwards to our final stop.

Upon arriving in Burghead we found our AirBnB no bother, only one street away from the harbour and we got parked at the door! With the accommodation being on the third floor, we had cracking views over both beaches.

We dragged all the gear upstairs and the never ending clothes washing began 🤣

We wandered the town to stock up on beer, spirits and munchies before heading back to make the kids’ tea. With the kids fed and watered, they were off to bed, whilst we enjoyed a Chinese, watered down with copious amounts of alcohol and a comfy couch! We enjoyed some company from a few mates who live locally before stumbling to bed around 2am!

Day 5 Survived!
